RULES OF ORIENTEERING

DEFINITION:

Orienteering is an athletic competition and a race against the clock which consists in finding control points indicated on a map, without a pre-established route between them.

SCALE OF THE MAP:

The map scale is 1:10 000 and will contain the information on the equidistance, the data of the field and the name of the cartographers.

AGE CATEGORIES:

Following categories:

-          open

-          18-34

-          senior 35-44

-          +45

ROUTES:

There will be two itineraries, one of middle distance and the other one of long distance. Both will be with Score-O format.

FLAGS:

A map will be given showing the control point locations that will be clearly identified after finding the place. The flags will be identified with a control number.

START:

Mass start.

OBLIGATIONS OF THE RUNNERS:

- The equipment is free; gaiters are however recommended to be worn for legs protection.

- The competition is strictly individual and has to be carried out in silence without following, neither asking or offering help. No respecting this rule could lead to the disqualification of the competitor.

-          Assistance is required in case of injury of any other runner.

-          The access to the zone of competition will be allowed only during the race.

-          Even if the competitor has no ended the race, he has to bring the control card to       the zone of arrival.

DURATION OF THE RACE:

The duration of the race of a participant will be determined when he will cross the finishing line.

DISQUALIFICATIONS AND COMPLAINTS :

Reasons for disqualification:

- Loss of the control card

- Not punching in one or several controls

- Wrong punch

- Unintelligible control card

- Move the place of a flag

- Use not authorized equipment (altimeter, GPS, etc.)

- Use a not authorized method of travel

TECHNICAL JURY:

The Organization will choose a technical jury formed by three competitors of different countries and by an Organizer.
